Hello everyone.
I have a cute card for you today using Tonic Studios Celebrate Friendship stamp set in a kind of unique way. I turned the adorable chicken from that stamp set into a proud turkey for the holidays. If you want to read how I did that, you are in the right place.
I stamped the images using Black Shadow ink is alcohol marker friendly ink and I applied colors using Alcohol markers.
Step by Step
Background Panel
- I started with a piece of white cardstock cut to 3 1/2 by 4 3/4 inches.
- As I wanted something to add some color to the background, I grabbed the Snowflake Flurry Stencil by Tonic Studios. This stencil can be used in so many ways.
- Then, I masked off the bottom left corner of the stencil to use just the one corner of the stencil to add some flurry to my background.
- I used Nuvo Embellishment Mousse in Forest Green and my Nuvo Spatula to coat the stencil.
Note: Make sure you clean your stencils and your spatulas as soon as possible to make it easier for you to clean up before it dries.
I left this panel to dry while I stamped and colored my images.
Stamping
- I stamped the chicken image first using Nuvo Black Shadow ink.
- Then I created a mask for this image.
- I used the long leaf like image from the Celebrate Friendship stamp set to create the turkey feathers behind his back.
- While masking the chicken image to make sure he stays in the foreground I stamped the leaf image behind him to create the feathers.
- Using a stamp positioner for this technique is helpful but not necessary.
- I would mask the flower I just stamped before moving onto the next feather. You only need two feather masks to make this image. Two is most helpful when you get to the top of his head but I ended up covering up those feathers with his cute hat. The hat is from the Snowman Snuggles stamp set, also by Tonic Studios.
- Once all of the feathers are stamped you can remove the masks and color your image.
- I also drew a little bit of a gobble neck under his chin to make him look more like a turkey.
- As for the sentiment, I stamped the “sending joy” from the Snowman Snuggles stamp set with Nuvo Clear Mark embossing ink onto smooth black cardstock and I heat embossed it with Nuvo Glacier White embossing powder.
- To cut it into a strip I trimmed it down using my paper trimmer.
Both the sentiment and the holiday turkey chicken where popped up onto the card panel using Craft Perfect foam squares. I also popped up his little hat. The entire card panel was added to a neutral gray card base cut to size A2 and scored in top folding portrait orientation using white craft foam and tear tape adhesive.
I hope I’ve inspired you to look at your stamps in a different way to see what you can create with them using a little imagination. You may even find a turkey chicken.
