Hi there, it’s Kathleen back with you and today I have another set of cards to share with you. The minute I saw the new Nuvo Dream Drops, I was absolutely in love! The pearlescent shine of them is absolutely gorgeous and I love the soft colours that they are available in (although I really hope there will be more colours in the future!).
For today’s cards, I tried to use them in a different way than simply applying them to the background to create drops. I pulled out two stencils from my stash because I wanted to see how you could apply these through a stencil to create your own background! So let’s have a closer look at the cards.
Enjoy card
For my first card I started by colouring a sheet of the A2 Watercolor Card pad with my Nuvo Aqua Flow Pens in French Wine, Wild Phlox and Red Apple from the Arabian Nights and Summer Holiday sets. Before applying the colour to the paper, I used a Light Mist Spray Bottle to spray the background. This allows for the paint to move around and spread around the paper as soon as you apply it with the pens. I kept going until I was happy with the result and then set it aside to dry. The great thing about this Watercolor Card, apart from the fact that it’s already perfectly sized for cards, is that it flattens out when it’s dry. So no need to put heavy books on top to get it flat.
When the paper was dry, I used a Palette Knife to apply the Dream Drops in Cloud 9 through the stencil. I didn’t want the whole background to be covered, so I just applied a little here and there for an uneven look. It was really easy to do since the texture of the Dream Drops (and all Nuvo Drops for that matter) is great for that! I really have to say, the photos don’t do the finished look justice! Depending on the angle you look at the card and how you tilt it in the light, the Dream Drops either shimmer in soft pink, sometimes more of a red and in parts also more white/translucent.
When everything was dry, I cut the paper down slightly and adhered it to a white A2-sized card base. For the sentiment I used the enjoy die set and cut it from the Harvest Gold Mirror Card.
Inspire Card
For my second card, I skipped the step of creating a watercoloured background and simply applied the Love Potion Dream Drops through a stencil (from my stash) directly onto the card base. This time I used the inspired die set and cut it from the Welsh Gold Glitter Card for a little bit of extra sparkle. Again, the photo doesn’t do it justice because it’s really hard to photograph. But I guess that means you will have to just try it yourselves
I hope you enjoyed this idea and maybe give it a go, too! And if you haven’t checked out the new Dream Drops yet, run – don’t walk – over to the shop to get your hands on some! Thanks a lot for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
