Nuvo Alcohol Markers on Embossed Vellum with Karen Baker

Hello everyone! Hope you’re all having a fabulous day. I do love using Tonic products in different ways and wanted to share an idea about using an Embossing folder, vellum and Nuvo Alcohol markers.

The beautiful Botanical Bloom embossing folder is a perfect partner with vellum. Using a particularly robust vellum that will withstand being embossed is important. Colouring with the Nuvo Alcohol markers on vellum is challenging as they won’t blend as they do on cardstock, but you’re going for a soft effect rather than a perfect blend!

Once I’d coloured in the image (the darker shades of pens definitely work best) I next trimmed it out and then decided the best way of attaching it to the layer of cardstock. I’d cut out the rectangular layer with the Freehand Stitched Rectangle Layering Die Set. Using brads to attach it to the cardstock was the solution. However, they were completely the wrong colour, changing with a good large drop of Dandelion Yellow Nuvo Drops solved the problem; the ugly brad now was hidden!!

I wanted to show you a closeup of the brad and the colouring on the vellum; it’s the perfect technique if you’re using Alcohol markers for the first time; messy is good!

Next I used Teal Blue Craft Perfect card and cut a small aperture out with the Stitched Rectangles. To finish, I added some white gel pen dots and a few more Nuvo Drops in Apple Green.

I hope this has encouraged you to have a go at using your Tonic Studios supplies a little differently.

See you soon,

Keren x
