Greetings and salutations!
I’m super excited to have been asked to join the Social Media Design Team for Tonic Studios, it’s going to be an awesome experience! Currently, I’m also on the Tonic Studios UK Design Team with an incredible group of die cutters.
In a more personal sense, I live in a sleepy fishing village in Cornwall, UK. My childhood was a little unconventional as I grew up in California, lived on a hippie commune and roller skated with the Venice Beach Bohemians. I was fortunate enough to experience the 80’s which saw me wear neon and have a mighty mullet in the 7th grade – it was savage! As far as my crafting journey goes, I love mixed media, die cutting and creating something from white space.
Tonic Studios have released a jigsaw media die set, when put together is approx. five inches squared. The media dies cut wood, greyboard, leather, fabric and much more. Today I’m stoked to share a quirky multi-media jigsaw set with you.
The concept
You can stamp, design, print and cut out images to create bespoke jigsaw puzzles. These are perfect for stocking fillers, gender reveals, showers, wedding favours or birthday goodie bag items, etc.
Background work
This project has stamps, inks, and ephemera to create quirky, fun images. Once designs were created, they were scanned and saved onto a PC. You can use a free program – Canva, to upload images, re-size, add text and take your creativity to another level.
The Puzzle
- Select your image(s) and adhere to greyboard, Allow to dry completely.
- Die cut with your media puzzle die – you must use a metal shim to protect your plates.
- Assemble and make a small 2.5 inch box to house them in – I’ve used Cutsey Blooms Square Kaleidoscope Lid twice and Jet Black Craft Perfect Cardstock.
- Re-size your design and use Black Shadow Hybrid Ink to distress the edges.
- Add Nuvo Vintage Drops to complete the look.
You can also make a larger 5.25 inch box to house your jigsaw collection using a scoreboard.
I loved making these puzzles in an inky and creative way to design a professional looking project.
