Hello everyone. Koren here today with some finger-painting. Yes, you heard me correctly finger-painting. We are going to dip our fingers into some Nuvo Stone Drops. I have the complete collection of the Stone Drops here with me, and with them, I have made a set of four cards using various color combinations of Stone Drops, but using the same technique.
I started with a piece of Tonic Studios Ultra Smooth White cardstock and a piece of dark grey cardstock. Both of these panels are cut to 3 1/4 by 4 1/2. These are extra small to leave an extra wide border around the outside. This exposes the lovely gray of the card base and also shrinks the size of the canvas I have on the front panel.
I used my eye to judge where I thought the center of each panel was and placed a rather large Nuvo Stone Drop in the center of the panel. I justified this drop towards the top of the panel. I did this so that I could then, dip in middle finger into the Nuvo Drop and slowly drag it down towards the bottom of the panel and then giving it a gentle flick towards the bottom where you run out of paint. I love the way this looks especially when you have several in a row. The color combinations that I used for each card are below, organized by the sentiment word.
- Inspire – Boulder Gray, Chalk White, Pink Granite, and Plum Slate
- Dream- Fiery Volcano, Chalk White, and Belgium Bluestone
- Hope- Gold Rush, Chalk White, and Pink Granite
- Peach- Gold Rush, Lady Liberty, and Chalk White
Using my middle finger, (I chose the middle, because I have more control of it than any of my other fingers- use what feels comfortable to you), I added a different shade to the right and to the left of each drop on each panel using different color combinations on each panel. I wiped my finger clean using a microfiber towel in between colors. Soap and water will take it off my finger permanently later.
For the Inspire card which uses the Tonic Studios’ Will’s Hand “inspire” die set which is part of the Tonic line that I used for each card in the set today. Each card in this set uses a word die for the sentiment. Each word is on of the Will’s Hand Die Set. I used Inspire, Dream, Hope, and Peace. These die sets come with both a word die as well as the shadow die that coordinates with it. I love shadow dies, but I’m not using them on today’s project. Each one of the word dies pictured were cut from Tonic Craft White cardstock four times and layered together using Nuvo Deluxe Liquid Adhesive.
Although I love the look of this technique, you are definitely going to have to give your panel plenty of time to dry. Make sure you don’t overdo it and add too much Stone Drop. The Stone drops do contain moisture and when added to regular cardstock, can warp your paper. You could add a little more muscle to your cardstock and back it with Tonic Grey Board. Add your front panel to it first, this gives your panel a little more weight to withstand the moisture from the Stone Drops.
However, I did not use the Grey Board and my panels stood up just fine, but I can see where they were starting to warp. I used White Craft Foam and Scotch Double Sided Adhesive to adhere my panels today. I stuck them to a light gray card base cut to size A2 in a side folding or landscape orientation.
To adhere my word dies, I did use clear adhesive tabs, and if you look really close, you can see the adhesive , but I don’t mind it too much, I think it is hidden enough. The Tonic Micro Serrated Snips make cutting this type of adhesive (or really any other kind that I have used) a dream.
That is it for my entire project set. These very simple, but elegant card making techniques would be fun to use to create lots of cards in a mass production situation (invitations, or thank you cards that you need a lot of would be great for this). I hope you enjoyed it and until next time!
