Loose Watercolor Background Pattern

Hello everyone! It’s Zinia here and today I’m back to share with you a cute card I created using the lovely Celebrate Friendship Stamp Set.

For this card, I was inspired by my little niece whose messy doodles and outside-the-lines colouring are absolutely beautiful.

I thought I can take the idea of the messy colouring and bring it into a super quick and easy card background also using small stamps.

How I made this Card

  • To build my pattern, I used various small images from the set and randomly stamped them around.
  • I first stamped the bigger images such as the pumpkin and watering can.  Then I filled in smaller areas with gradually smaller and smaller images.
  • Once I was done with the pattern design, I used my Nuvo Aqua Flow to apply colours.
  • I limited myself to a fall-inspired color palette including oranges, greens and blues with a hint of dark cherry.

Tip

I found myself being too careful with my colouring and I couldn’t get the messy effect I was going for. If you have a similar issue and you find it hard to let go and loosen up, try colouring with your non-dominant hand.

That’s what I did in this card and it really turned out exactly the way I wanted.

I initially didn’t want to bother with shading but since some images had details that needed different colors, I allowed myself to add a second layer of color.

Once everything was perfectly dry, I added some ink splatters to enhance the messy and lose look.

For a finishing touch, I filled in the little hearts on the watering cans with Nuvo glitter drops and added my sentiment.

I hope you like this idea.

Thanks for having me today

Zinia.
