Hello Crafters, Ali here from Australia and I’m so happy to be joining you today on the Tonic Studios Blog!

I’m an avid cardmaker who has been “improving” her skills for around 19 years (and still learning new things all the time!). In the last few years, I have begun to share my love of cardmaking on Youtube and Instagram and have been overwhelmed by the kindness and support out there in this wonderful cardmaking community!

My style has definitely changed and evolved over the years and as a result, I think it is quite eclectic. Currently, I seem to have an affinity with interactive cards!

I love to problem solve and there is something about making an interactive idea come to life that I am really enjoying right now!

Dress -Up Cat Magnetic Card

This began as an idea to have a card with changeable costumes. So the recipient can ‘dress up the critter’ for Halloween.

 Tonic Studios stamp sets from the Garden Party release were perfect to make this card idea come to life as they are ideal for the concept – there is a huge range of critters and dress ups/outfits for them to choose from!

To Make the Card

• For the card background, I blended the inks from lightest at the bottom to darkest towards the top. I splattered with water.
• Next, I stamped out the images from the Tonic Stamp sets (the clown nose is the circle from on top of the party hat).
• To apply colours to the images I used alcohol markers and I  fussy cut them using scissors. 
• I die cut from black cardstock the lawn, tree, fence (2x) and adhered these to the base card as shown.
• To create similar cards you can use any die you might have such as a fence die, trees/leaves die, bats die, spider web die, spider die, lawn/grass die.

Magnetic elements

•  I used small, thin strips cut from a magnetic sheet (the type of magnetic sheet I use to store my dies on) and adhered one to the back of the cat image.
• I then placed another magnet piece on the front of the cat (letting it settle where it was attracted to the magnet on the back of the cat)
• The magnet may not perfectly centre on the cat, but don’t worry – place adhesive on the front of the magnet piece and line up the ‘outfit’ so that it sits straight on the cat image, then press down onto the magnet piece to adhere together.
• This way, when you place you outfit pieces on, they will sit nicely on the cat image.  Do the same with all the dress-ups/costumes.

I placed a rectangle of the magnet sheet on the inside of the card to ‘store’ the costumes, but you could also use thin strips of magnet sheet or place them inside a gift card holder or small envelope on the inside of the card if you needed to send it by mail, to reduce the weight.
