I’ve recently joined the Tonic Social Media Design Team and it’s a real treat to choose between so many fab products to create projects with.

I dug out some of the Mixed Media dies which do exactly what they say and are perfect for die-cutting on a wide range of products. Because they are a deeper die than normal Tonic Studios dies, you need to use a different sandwich (the green Tonic plate) and the metal shim you can purchase especially developed for the Mixed Media range.

I’ve used the Antique Keys & Locks Media die set. To use these with normal cardstock, I just used the green plate (die-cutting embossing plate for the Tonic Tangerine) and an extra piece of cardstock as a shim which worked in place of the metal plate.

If you’re doing anything more substantial than cardstock, you definitely need the shim. The technique of using Nuvo Shimmer Powders to colour cardstock makes it really quick and easy. Sometimes you want texture without the hassle!!

Nuvo Shimmer Powders

• To use the powders, you just gently tip the bottle. Beware of squeezing the bottle; this powder goes a long way. I just gently tap if it’s not coming out.
• You can mix them, partially cover your die-cut piece, create backgrounds etc. All you do then is spray water over them, and you can add a little or a lot. There is also mica in the mixture, so there’s a wonderful pearlescence too.
• They are water reactive, so if you want more colour, when you spray the water, it will react again.
• It’s such a fun product to try and you never know quite what you’ll end up with. I used a combination of Cherry Bomb, Solar Flare, Catherine Wheel, Green Parade, Violet Brocade, Falling Leaves and Atlantis Burst.

They’re so reasonably priced and they’ll last you for ages!

The sentiment is from the Hello Sweetie-Pie! Whimsical Frames Stamp Set and I’ve just fussy-cut it out. Add a little black thread and have them so they look as if they’re hanging.

There’s some Apple Green Nuvo Crystal Drops to finish the card. Really easy and didn’t take long to make!
